You should replace both batteries together so they are matched. A new battery will be killed if/when the old one goes bad.

The recirc door is the only one accessible without removing the whole box. If you can reach it to remove it you can (and should) replace it.

I've had a couple of older Chevy trucks that had fiber optic illumination in the ashtrays. I think it was fed off the HVAC controls.
Are there resistors on each circuit (stop, tail, reverse) in the lights? If not, that's where I'd start.
