I still have my '05 but just got a new 2021. Big difference !! Anyone know of an easier way to change the oil filter besides going in over the top of the right front tire? That't a real nightmare!

I admit I haven't done it yet but look like a nightmare. I read someone mentioned a tool from Geno's that makes it easier. I might look into that.

It's a screw on cap so when you tip the filter no oil runs out. I'm not sure if the gorilla at Cummins retired but he really torqued on the oil filter. Just crank the wheel hard.

The 2019 and up are super easy! On the air intake tube loosen the 5/16” nuts on the band clamps. Now the filter is setting there waiting. EZ-PE-ZE

Don’t waste a nickel on any special tools.

Through the wheel well with screw on cap was never a problem. I could sit on milk crate and swap out just as easy as over the top and didn't have to climb up and over fender. Others have done with zip loc bag to keep from making a mess. Just bite the bullet and order cap from Geno's along with other items I'm sure you'll need or want! Either way is a personal choice. Just make sure to do it! Enjoy that truck!

I have it in and out without any issues faster than I could take the intake tube off.. Amazon or Genos filter cap.. put a rag in the bottom to hold the filter from tipping, and done... All you have to do is turn the tire to the right.

You been reading my posts.:D:rolleyes: Thats the way I do it ,right down to the the rag or old towel in the bottom for it to rest on.

And the discussion is off ,and running. We do this once a month . Yes I did it once thru the top, and will NEVER do it again .Yes spend a few bucks get the cap, the one on Amazon was not available when I bought the one from Genos, much cheaper thru Amazon.

Ya, that first time ,and last I did it thru the top, it was great fun standing on a stool leaning over the fender ,taking parts off the motor to get at that filter . Don't knock it unless you have tried it, and we all know you have not gone thru the fender . :)

If you decide to go thru the fender ,you can get the cap on Amazon for $7.50 ,and free shipping , you can afford it. :D:p

Why spend money on something that's not needed? Look the two band clamp 5/16" heads are so easy to get to. There is NO "Climbing up over the fender". Not much different than changing the air filter. Pull up your two step and get er dun. 30 seconds and it's removed.

This is even easier than the pre 19 trucks that are EASY from the top.

I pre fill my filters with one quart.

We are talking 19 and up trucks. Even you would not have an issue with loosening two band clamps and slipping off the tube.

Hey I'm retired and on a limited income.

No nightmare at all, get the cap, and watch a video if necessary , but its not that hard to figure out, just make sure you turn the wheel all the way to left before you start , don't drain the oil ,and realize you haven't turned the wheel like I did. :), makes it a bit more difficult leaning over the tire , kinda reminded me of the time I did it thru the top . :)

Screw off the filter , have a rag or old towel stuffed below it in the cavity to rest the filter on , screw on the cap ,tilt sideways ,and pull out , EZ-PE-ZE . Repeat going in fill the filter 3/4 full screw on the cap insert thru tilt upright , screw off the cap. Raise it straight up , it finds its way . I do it one handed

Zip lock or grocery bag around the filter to catch any oil when bringing out through fender. No muss and almost no cost. No risk of getting crap into the turbo.

here we go again...I'd rather sit on my stool with a beer in one hand and the filter in the other and reach in :)

You were not paying attention on this thread , the Op was leaning towards thru the fender . Only reply that I read on THIS thread was 12v going thru the top . Thru the fender was a clear winner on this thread the way I see it . :D:rolleyes:

Yes, I know you are to short to reach the filter over the finder.
