I am thinking of removing my muffler and installing either a straight pipe or performance muffler. Has any one done this on a 2012? About what increase in noise and/or milage did you get?

With all the crap on the exhaust system I am thinking there wouldn't be much difference in either, but wanted some input from those who have already gone there.

Don: Be sure you can legally remove the muffler. Some states (with smog inspection laws) don't allow it. Truck can't be registered without factory or standard replacement muffler. Same goes for particulate chamber. My state doesn't require it, so I have a straight pipe. But then, mine is an 86 retrofitted to 92 diesel specs +. I have no idea as to how it will change your mileage, but my truck is not noisy (to me). 2012 engines may be a different story.

Since your truck has a turbo which has an exhaust port the size of a quarter any downstream changes will have no effect on a stock motor.

That is not a true statement... ... ... exhaust downstream from the turbo will have an effect... ... ... ... ... however removing the muffler on a stock 2012 will have virtually no effect ;)

Took mine off the 2011 and no difference in sound or miles per gallon. Just saved a little weight. .
