I was interested in installing some smoked RECON cab lights on my 2012, but I've heard alot about them leaking especially back 15 years ago when they first came out Does anyone know if this leaking problem was ever corrected by them or if they still leak when new and installed. Thanks for any replies. Also, any experiences would be appreciated.

Yeah got talked into those from Recon for my 04.5 . Hard plastic seal "really" needs a nice mushy silicone ring to seal properly. I would get something in writing if they leak get your money back.

Problem with cab lights is always the same, they come with a flat base.
The only ones available with a slight radius that matches the roof are the OEMs.
The newer ones with the bolt front and back seal good if installed properly.

When you say newer ones, are you referring to a newer version of the RECON lights or OEM version?

Newer ones of the OEM, somewhere around 2008? was the switch from bolts on the side of the light to for and aft bolts. Seals were also improved at the same time. I retrofitted these new ones to my oldie.

I would install OEM lights. The 4th Gen ones are easy to install, albeit a little nerve racking to drill for.

Was the OP asking to install on a truck w/o cab lights? I assumed they were replacing OEM with Smoked ones.. I for one would never put the lights on as they are just 5 more places for water to come in. JM2C.

Guess he needs to clarify, but either way I’d stick with OEM.

I used OEM smoked lights to replace the orange lights on my 05, and added OEM smoked lights to my 18.

No, just replacing my OEM lights, wanted to go smoked, but I had read the RECON leaked bad when they first came out and I didn't know if they had corrected that years later.

I'd just get the OEM smoked lights.

I didn't know they even made OEM smoked cab lights. I'll definitely look into it.

I thought all 4th gen's had them, but it must have been a change after 2012.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot they were clear. The OEM smoked started in 2019 and I don't think they are compatible with the early 4th gen cutouts.

I have a sharks fin and a puck. That’s all. I don’t need more holes in my roof thank you

Maybe not a direct replacement but sure doable as the sheet metal stayed the same. I'd say..

The 19+ OEM's use a square mounting hole that is too big for the round hole in the 10-18 trucks. I mean it could be done, but so far I haven't seen anyone do it becuase of the complexity.

Also, there is no 19+ retrofit kit..

So I am thinking that some spray tint on the OE clear 4th gen lens is the best way to go for a early 4th gen.
