    Hello all,

I am looking at Geno's Garage and they are 2 listed. Which would you prefer. I'm going to add a poll.
    This one? Or...

I would use the Gates, they are all steel. The Cummins one appears to be pot metal/plastic, at least it was on my '91. I replaced it with a Gates from Napa, years ago. The original didn't last very long.

The one on my 98 12V is still going strong at 400K so I would choose OE.

Got you beat, mine has a bit over 500K.

    Dayco makes Cummins tensioners.

Only thing I didn't like about the Gates unit was it had to be loosened up and moved away from the engine block in order to change the belt. I couldn't get the belt past it on my 05.

    Thanks all,

It's one more thing I will do while I am laid up with the clutch job. We lost our power up here in Maine from last Monday's storm so that is why I am not in the shop under the truck.
Motorcity Mechanic out of GA has a great You-Tube video on changing the water pump and goes into clear detail about removing the tensioner for that very reason (the belt is "trapped".)

Engine accessory part life like these items really should be rated on run time. I have only 126k on my tens and belt, but have about 4800 hours. That's pretty good, I'd say.

With items like these, it's tough to beat OEM.

Ralph, what truck do you have? Nothing in your signature.

When my water pump failed this last time at around 302k miles, I had in mind belt tensioner replacement, simply due to miles. I went OE through a dealer in Salisbury, NC.....which ultimately was a Cummins part with a mopar sticker on the box.

I will be happy if I get the same service out of this one. Additionally---the old one currently resides in my toolbox. At least I have eliminated (hopefully) a potential failure point for a few more miles while I am on the road.
