OK, it is time for me to break down and buy an exhaust brake. I have decided I like the PacBrake because of price and all the good comments. Problem is I have one of those california trucks with a EGR valve which will not work with exhaust brakes.
BD was my second choice and they have some sort of EGR kit but I would like to avoid that. Has anyone else encountered this problem and what recomendations are there. I guess I can block off the EGR, but by doing that it makes my rig illegal in this state. Maybe I should just get rid of the cat and egr altogether, will anyone ever know or care?
Someone please help me, I am getting headache.

Thanks Piers for the info, If there is some way to block off the EGR valve so that I can keep it on the truck for the smog cops to look at that is the way I want to go. Seems like a piece of thin steel plate cut just right would block it off but yet keep the stock looks.
I want to get rid of the cat next, was going to gut it out and re-install it for the same reason but my exhaust expert says use the test pipe and keep kitty in the garage if it "really" is ever needed.
Last resort, guess I could move up to BC canada, I hear those guys really know how to bomb these trucks!

    Roger
I have a BD brake with the BD EGR kit on my '97. Since its an Automatic I laos have the BD auto lock and pressure lock kits installed.
Brake works great, but I am having trouble with the BD EGR kit. It plugs up with soot from the exhaust, which then causes the engine to die at idle and the brake turned on. The only real solution That I can see is the block off the EGR tube at the exhaust manifold. I am just going to cut out a plate drill it And bolt it on. I am told your check engine light will now be lite, guess i'll have to put a piece of tape over it until I can find the wire and cut it.

BD's egr kit will work with the Pac brake or just **** can the egr system all together. Put on a non egr intake manifold & lower your egt's at the same time.
