“ . . so going to get Char Grill that weighs 42Lbs for the RV”.

    IMG_4933.jpeg

Much more than just a grill. The one I have was bought by my Dad out of the back of the inventors car at a well-drilling site. Before I was born. And I’m 66.

Cast aluminum. Conserves heat. Airtight design. Regulate airflow. Run it Lean of Peak.

I carry mine with its folding cart, still shod with original Firestone tires, in the pickup bed in a tub. All supplies.. Permanent accompaniment to the travel trailer.

    Sure doesn’t weigh any 45-lbs.

The ones sent to Vietnam by contractors and battalions during the war are still in use by street vendors.

Many models. First built in Tyler, then Little Rock (used market).

Being able to stack layers of food with accessory pieces — almost high & tight — then cook to completion with minimal charcoal use is a great thing. “Kitchen” is key: a range, plus oven. Direct heat to indirect. Close or far.

You wouldn’t believe how long it takes for me to get thru a 10-lb bag of charcoal. (Cook for your family for days and days; whole meals. A work crew).

Nothing else will cook a brisket or a ribeye as well.

T/A-Hillsboro has been one of the best for quite awhile. Every aspect. Enormous amounts of parking. All the oversized moving thru that part of Texas use it. Sad to see that Dumb Buc is moving in across the street.

The traffic jams by selfish car/pickup drivers (all of them, these days; no exceptions) and their causing accidents with big trucks will be epic due to the design and proximity of IH35 entrance/exits.

They shouldn’t have been allowed to build there.

Right now there are just stop signs below the I-35 bridge at the conversion points. But they did have traffic lights installed, albeit covered with burlap when we jumped off the freeway. But they did seem almost completed, so by the time this Buc-ee's does open the traffic lights might be functional.

Thanks, but this one exceeds alocated space by 4 inches. I changed my mind about getting the Char Griller in favor of an 18" Weber charcoal grill I inherited a few years ago.

    Thanks again for the thought.

    Cheers, Ron

A friend sent me a picture of the grand opening. Looks like they did it up right. I just got back from Missouri, north of Springfield. Took my mom to the Buc-ee's in Springfield, and I believe it was the first one in the state. She loved the food, fuel and bathrooms. Thought the clothing and tchotchkes were a "tourist trap". Maybe so, people were buying a lot of them. And there was a tour busload of elderly people there, so...

It’s the short distance from there to both entities. Trucks having to turn left across traffic to get back to the highway with cars cutting right in front of them from the driveways to also depart.

That’ll in turn jam the entry drives for those wanting to enter as traffic stacks at the lights. Traffic stalled to crawl both directions.

Cars running the red lights, as is now the norm meaning fewer get thru on ROW. Making it worse.

The car drivers will undergo anxiety not able to pull out or enter and will short-circuit the whole thing with stoopid human stunts.

Trucks do fine on their own. Add cars and it’s another game. Theres a belief (via actions) they always have ROW over trucks. The short distance to the highway will be fun-filled.

    Is it any good?

Most store bought jerky is poor quality. Imposible to find real jerky around here. If the package says refrigerate after opening, it is not real.

I recommend this, excellent real jerky. Not into exotic flavors but they have 100 types. Kangaroo? jeez, ain't that a large rodent, yuk!:D

Well my wife and I like the many different flavors they had on hand at the jerky counter, we left with enough to last our daily fix for 5 weeks, also did no see signs to say it had to be refrigerated, if they had side sign I never saw it...

Finally, some sanity in this world. The largest Buc-ee's is now in Texas. Where it belongs. It's located in Luling, TX, and is 75,000 square feet, making it not only the largest Buc-ee's, but also the largest convenience store in the world. The governor was even there for the event. Take that, Tennessee!

World's largest Buc-ee's is now open in Texas

Will definitely have to check that one out. I've been to the Buc-ee's that was already in Luling, but it was a very small Buc-ee's compared to the giant ones. Not sure why Luling was chosen for the largest one, though.

We're in San Antonio and were going yesterday, but got busy. The Luling location is always crazy busy and I-10 is pretty much the same. The location is perfect easy off, easy on and the property is vast. I'll bet, even with the size upgrade, it will be even busier.

New Braunfels location is closer right off I-35. Buc-ees always seem to build adjacent to main highways and are experts at serving great quantities of folks quickly and efficiently.

I'll take the 5500 to Luling and check it out soon. Maybe shoot and post some pics.

    Cheers, Ron

I say it once again.... I live in Texas. Been to a few different Buc-ee's. I like all the gas pumps. The BBQ looks good, the jerky looks good but in general it has all of the same products strewn all over to try and make it look big. Much of it is junk food you really shouldn't eat alot of.

Well I'm A Texan and I really LIKE Buc-ees! Finally made it to tge one in Luling today. Traffic was backed up onto I10 to get in. I like taking the 5500 there every so often and runhim up to 80 mph for about 30 minutes each way. DPF and DEF systems like it.

Anhoo, I got my three meat BBQ sammich and Vivian got chopped brisket. I do miss adding cherry or vanilla flavors at the soft drink dispensers, but still daened good. We like the 5500 cuz Vivian and I like the flat bed to have lunch on. We parked right by the giant inflatable Buc-ees Beaver, so I took about 15 family photos and took a selfie. My best advice is don't ever get too old to have a little light fun.

Got some Buc-ees Nuggets, pickled quail eggs and some different flavored pecans. Jumped on a deal for a 12VDC/110VAC portable fridge for $269, Google search showed $399 elsewhere and great reviews.

Sandwiches were amazing, even though some of the oldest and best Texas BBQ joints are nearby. So for those Buc-ees BBQ haters out there, Buc-ees contracts with many local BBQ joints for their BBQ.

The aisles are huge, I challenge anyone to find cleaner restrooms anywhere, and with all that, it was a little slow getting in, easy and fun inside, and quick leaving.

    Have Fun and be safe!

So Ya Hoot, I'm fine, thanks for being concerned. I'll always now think of you when I often visit Buc-ees, sadly. I pray for you too!

Maybe this will help bring you around... Buc-ees sells fresh fruit cups, salads, and has health food and drinks. It seems you did not find these when you visited. Maybe I can turn you around and make you a Buc-ees lover! Just maybe!
