I'm thinking of upgrading engine intake and cooling hoses to silicone and went over to look at Mr. Bob's website and the site is down. Google just shoves me over to an account suspended page. Bummer.

    Alternatives to Mr. Bob?

Anyway............provided I can reach Mr. Bob, are the hoses worth upgrading? My truck has about 170,000 miles on it.

I guess it depends on how much fueling you have and how high boost you normally use. I still have the original boots on mine. A long, long time ago Joe D showed me the necessity of bending the inner fenders away from the lower ones to keep them from rubbing.

Good tip on the inner fender bend. I'll take a look at mine.

As far as fueling and boost goes.........I'm kinda new to all this, so not sure where I sit in that department.

If I'm stepping on it, boost gauge reads about 10-12 psi. Fuel pressure gauge runs about 15 psi.

I found them when looking to replace the coolant Y's that are in my truck do to twin radiators. The aluminum Y's they sell were the best price and warranty! Good company to deal with. Yes they have some good looking stuff! Don't hurt the wallet to much. :D

Then you have two problems which could be related. Even if it is stock you should see at least 20 pounds of boost under load and your fuel pressure is too low. The specs are in the factory service manual. If you don't have them Genos Garage does.

I'll run the truck later today and hammer down and report back what I'm reading and how my gauges are plumbed.

Like I said before, kinda new to all this but, absolutely love my truck and I am eager to learn more about her.

Some geographic areas are harder on equipment.

Mr Bob's was a great kit and was a fun project.

FWIW, the few times my boost has dropped, I've found I'm overdue for a fuel filter change. The truck would change from one that authoritatively powers up a steep-ish grade to a Rolls-Kinardly.

I had a set on my 01 They were on for over 300k miles and in fact are still on as far as I know, sold truck to BIL no idea how many miles he put on it since I sold it to him 7 years ago. Were they worth it? I guess I cant really say for sure though for whatever reason (rationalization?) I didnt worry about them.

IIRC I changed them out because I think it was the upper rad hose was starting to show signs of wear ie soft and I had an intercooler boot that had been rubbing on a clamp or fitting and was needing replacement. So I bought the whole set and changed everything out at once and never looked back.

    • Mr Bob's was still going as of last fall, I bought the cooling kit and then later the CAC boots. Coolant hoses look great and fit great, after trying to wrestle the cac boots on I gave up, I still have 3/4 of the cac boots unmolested, I trimmed one of them and it still didn't work for me. If interested in the cac boots I will make a heck of a deal, 1/2 price plus shipping.

I put Mr. Bob's on mine, and I can't tell you how many years ago. No regrets. Though, there is ONE hose at the rear of the motor that caused me to teach my young son standing nearby some new, uh, 'vocabulary'! ;)
