06 3500, anyone ever had the fuel filter cover unscrew enough to cause it to leak?

Sounds like o-ring got nicked on the filter change. If cap was installed and tightened, it shouldn't back off at all. The o-ring not only seals but helps like a lock washer. Hope you can find out what caused it to loosen up on you.

To add to that comment, it is possible to crack the resin cover if over tightened.

As fine as the threads are I doubted it possible? It did start to leak and has about 10,000 miles on filter. I must have turned it 3/4 of a turn till it got tight. Haven't driven truck since. I am going to go ahead and change the filter and look at the cover real close. Thanks for the replies.

Well, I changed the filter, put cap on and tightened as tight I thought was good and I could still see the "O" ring, tightened some more, looks good. Guess I was fortunate it failed at home. (It didn't fail, I just failed to tighten it right the last time.) The filter housing is kind of like the low side port on the AC as far as access. With a little more engineering they both could have been made inaccessible.

I noticed the new 6.7 has the torque spec moulded onto the lid...

I never ever torque that lid, just snug and it's fine.
