I have a 2005 with a 11.5 American Axle 4x2 3.73 gear. I need a replacement rear as the ring and pinion in mine is toast. Well it seems trying to find one is harder than I thought. Why is a 4x4 11.5 different than a 4x2? 4x4 rears seem easy to find. But What would be different between the two? I have a 07 CTD 4x4 and they look the same? Thanks in advance, I'm stuck with the rear end out of my 2005 now and can't find a replacement.-----------Roy

Why not rebuild what you have?

Time I buy the bearing kit and ring and pinion I'll have just as much in it. Plus running the risk of the gears being noisy. This rear was run empty for a while so may need hub bearings.

Yeah I found one, It's going to take 3 days to get here. The 4x4 rears are available most every where. I still don't see what the difference is. But every yard I called said they were not the same?

I wouldn't have thought it true but Mopar lists a different part number for 2or 4 wheel drive for the housing itself.

That is what I'm thinking. I'm going to measure a 4x2 and 4x4 since I have a 07 4x4 and a 05 4x2.I'll see if that is the difference and let everyone here know.
